Science Weekend 2025

Science Weekend is designed to give everyone, young and old, an accessible insight into the world of science and technology. The Weekend takes place every year on the first weekend of October. This year, it will be on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 October. Six NWO institutes will also be opening their doors. Come and see, discover and experiment!

AMOLF, ARCNL, CWI and Nikhef: Science Day Amsterdam Science Park Saturday 4 October

The Amsterdam Science Park Science Day on Saturday 4 October is for everyone between the ages of 6 and 106 who is interested in science and wants to learn more about it. Take a look behind the scenes of science. Conduct an experiment, listen to interesting lectures, take a guided tour or visit a demonstration. Discover the many themes and techniques that are being researched at Amsterdam Science Park. Amsterdam Science Park Science Day is part of the Weekend of Science. Six organisations are participating in Science Day, each with its own programme: AMOLF, ARCNL, CWI, NIKHEF and UVA-FNWI.

SRON Open Days Saturday 5 October (Groningen) and Saturday 11 October (Leiden)

From young to old, everyone is welcome to step into the world of space research. Dive into our fascinating lectures and discover the science behind our missions. Marvel at planetarium shows in the mobile planetarium. Step into the shoes of a researcher with fun experiments or be amazed by demonstrations.

Can you spot molecules in the air with a special viewer? Can you solder a satellite in the Fun Lab? What do you look like through a heat viewer? Would you like to learn how we can search for a second Earth? What happens around super-hot black holes? And how are stars born? Come and find out in Groningen and Leiden.

SRON & Kapteyn Groningen Open Day

When: Sunday 5 October, 12:00-17:00
Location: Kapteynborg building, Landleven 12, Zernike Campus Groningen.
In Groningen, our Open Day is part of the Zpannend Zernike science festival (website in Dutch only) and NL SpaceWeek.

SRON Leiden Open Day

When: Saturday 11 October, 11:00-16:00.
Location: SRON building, Niels Bohrweg 4, Bio Science Park Leiden.
Parking is available in the Ehrenfestgarage on Ehrenfestweg. In Leiden, our Open Day is part of NL SpaceWeek.
