Weekend of Science 2023

On 7 and 8 October the Weekend of Science (Weekend van de Wetenschap) takes place. On various locations in Holland you can take a look behind the scenes of science and technology. The programme is yet to be announced (in September), but it is certain that a great number of NWO Institutes will open their doors. Keep an eye on the the website of Weekend van de Wetenschap (in Dutch only) for more information. 

AMOLF, ARCNL, CWI and Nikhef: open day Amsterdam Science Park

Saturday, October 7, 2023 is the open day Amsterdam Science Park, for anyone between the ages of 6 and 106 who is interested in science and wants to learn more about it. Take a look behind the scenes of science. Do an experiment, listen to interesting lectures, take a tour or visit a demonstration. Get to know the many topics and techniques being researched in the Amsterdam Science Park. The Open Day Amsterdam Science Park is part of the Weekend of Science. Five organizations are participating in the Open Day: AMOLF, ARCNL, CWI, NIKHEF and UVA-FNWI.

On Sunday 8 October, the Lofar Day will take place. It is organised by ASTRON and the LofarTafel Foundation, together with the Drentse Landschap. In the LofarZone between Buinen en Exloo lies the heart of the giant telescope LOFAR, a thousand tiny antennas in an immense silent nature reserve. There are excursions on nature and astronomy, there are talks and young (from 4 years old) and old can experiment with gravity, black holes and radio waves. Read all about it here.

SRON Open Days 2023: 1 and 7 October

On Sunday, Oct. 1, and Saturday, Oct. 7, step into the world of space research at two sites of SRON, the Netherlands Institute for Space Research.

At SRON, they look up into space, with telescopes, to study stars, planets and black holes. And they look down from space, into the sky of our own planet Earth. This is how they see what is happening to the climate.

Groningen, Sunday 1 October
Kapteynborg Building, Landleven 12, Zernike Campus Groningen.
In Groningen, the Open Day is part of science festival Zpannend Zernike.

Leiden, Saturday 7 October

(Parking is available for 2 euro per hour in the Ehrenfestgarage on the Ehrenfestweg).
In Leiden, the open day is part of Space Week and Weekend of Science.
