News from the Central Works Council (Inside NWO-I December 2020)

The NWO Central Works Council (COR NWO) is reviewing the co-determination structure within NWO. Besides the local institute councils and COR NWO, a works council will be added at NWO-I level. This idea will be further elaborated in the coming months. The consequences of the coronavirus continue to be discussed. Themes on the agenda are the continuation of the temporary Implementing Regulation Commuting expenses, remuneration for working from home and the NWO policy concerning working from home in the period after the coronavirus.

New co-determination structure

The modified governance with a director NWO-I was also a reason for COR NWO to review the co-determination structure within NWO. Together with the Executive Board representatives and the local works councils, we have decided that an adjustment needs to be made. We will further elaborate this idea in the coming months. The local institute works councils and COR NWO will in any case continue to exist. However, a works council at NWO-I level will be added so that the distinction will become clearer between NWO-I subjects (for which director NWO-I Miriam Luizink is responsible) and subjects that play a role for the entire NWO organisation (under the responsibility of the NWO Executive Board).

Consequences of the coronavirus

COR NWO regularly discusses the consequences of the coronavirus. For example, COR NWO is discussing the continuation of the temporary Implementing Regulation Commuting expenses with the Executive Board representative. We have also discussed a remuneration for working from home and a one-off compensation for the most recent period of working from home. We are also participating in the workgroup “hybrid working”. This workgroup will provide preliminary suggestions for the NWO policy concerning working from home in the period after the coronavirus.
