News from the NWO Central Works Council (Inside NWO-I June 2019)
What does COR NWO do for you?
The NWO Central Works Council (COR NWO) works on behalf of all NWO and NWO-I employees together with the executive board member on the proper functioning of the organisation. For example, COR NWO receives approval requests for new policy. The COR NWO investigates the proposal and must subsequently give approval before NWO may implement the policy. The COR NWO can also put forward a policy proposal.
Who represents you in the COR NWO?
The new, two-year term of the COR NWO started in mid-May. COR NWO now has 14 seats. AMOLF, ASTRON, CWI, DIFFER, Nikhef, NIOZ, NSCR, SRON, NWO-D (2 seats) and the NWO-I office are represented. The 2 seats of NWO-I employees in university workgroups and the one seat of ARCNL have not been filled yet. COR NWO meets once per month and once every two months there is a meeting with the NWO Executive Board. During the first internal meeting, COR NWO unanimously chose Fons Kuijk from CWI as the new chair. Who represents you in the COR NWO?
Are you (m/f) planning a family, are you pregnant or do you breastfeed?
On 9 April 2019, COR NWO approved the proposed policy for family planning m/f, pregnancy, and breastfeeding time at NWO-I. The policy contains a checklist with which the risks for fertility m/f, pregnancy, and breastfeeding time can be determined. With this, the measures needed to minimise these risks as much as possible can also be described. Furthermore, the proposal contains detailed information about implementing the policy as well as an explanation of the risk factors. The proposal was discussed by the central health and safety coordinator of NWO-I with the health and safety commission of COR NWO and with the NWO Executive Board. The committee concluded that it is a very carefully designed policy. The worked out policy will be published on the NWO-I website at a later time under 'Personnel'.
Revised policy working conditions NWO-I
On 18 April 2019, COR NWO approved the working conditions policy NWO-I. This describes how the working conditions are organised. Examples of this are the agreements concerning itemising and evaluating risks, crisis management and the in-house emergency and first-aid service. But it also includes collaboration with the works councils. With the approval, COR NWO set the condition that employees – if applicable – are explicitly informed about an entry medical examination, the so-called baseline measurement at the start of the contract. Furthermore, COR NWO believes it is vitally important that all institutes implement the policy in the same manner. As part of the text had not yet been written in an unequivocal manner, COR NWO resolved this problem by submitting a clearer modified text proposal to the Executive Board representative. The worked out policy will be published on the NWO-I website at a later time under 'Personnel'.
