News from the works councils (February 2024)

For the Central Works Council of NWO (COR NWO) and the Group Works Council of NWO-I (GOR NWO-I) the agenda for 2024 includes negotiations about the interim Implementing Regulations (IR) and about the governance of NWO-I. The works councils of NWO and NWO-I wish all colleagues a Happy New Year. We wish you a successful 2024, both at work and in your private life. What does 2024 hold in store?

NWO-I Governance and operations, and the Implementing Regulations negotiations

As the works councils, we hope that a stable and sustainable solution will be found for the governance of NWO-I, and good progress will be made with the plans for the operations of NWO-I. In 2024, the COR NWO expects to receive a request for advice about the NWO-I change of governance.

The NWO-I operations will be discussed with the GOR NWO-I. We are able to report that the NWO Executive Board representative – in consultation with the GOR NWO-I – has recently withdrawn the still open requests for advice from 2022 and 2023 for domains within the ‘Development Operations NWO-I’. During each consultative meeting, the representative informs the GOR NWO-I about the development of new year plans for the different operational units of NWO-I. It has been announced that a proposal for the organisation of the NWO-I office is to be expected by the end of January. In so far as there is a requirement to request advice or approval, the representative will submit all intended decision-making about all new (year) plans to the GOR NWO-I.

In addition, we will do our utmost to make good on new agreements in the interim Implementing Regulations (IR) negotiations. The following subjects will, in any case, be discussed: appraisal interviews, remuneration amounts and a possible appointment of an ombudsman.

Healthy work climate, inclusive culture and talent

NWO wants to be an organisation with a healthy work climate and an inclusive culture in in which everyone’s talent at NWO and NWO-I is given the opportunity they deserve (NWO Strategy 2023-2026). We will take this aim as a starting point for the coming year in discussing, for example, the outcomes of the employee satisfaction survey (MOZ) at NWO-I and also during the aforementioned IR negotiations.

Another subject on the agenda for 2024: we intend to evaluate the codetermination structure together with the works councils of NWO-D, the NWO-I office and the institutes. This will include discussing how we can increase efficiency.

Join a meeting of the works councils

We are putting our best foot forward! Would you like to know how we do this in practice? Then come and join one of our meetings. This year, too, all employees of NWO-D and NWO-I are welcome to attend the meetings of the COR NWO as observers, and the NWO-I colleagues can similarly attend the meetings of the GOR NWO-I. In 2024, both councils will (in any case) meet on 6 February, 5 March, 9 April, 18 April, 7 May, 13 June, 2 July, 10 September, 8 October, 12 November and 3 December.
