Strategic Conference of the Permanent Committee on National Institutes (PCNI) on 11 November
The boards of the KNAW and NWO set up the Permanent Committee on National Institutes (PCNI) in June 2020, following the evaluation of the portfolio of the KNAW and NWO Institutes. In the coming years, the PCNI will provide both boards with solicited and unsolicited advice about broad scientific and social developments that the portfolio of national research institutes can respond to. On 11 November 2021, the PCNI will be holding its first strategic conference to discuss major, scientifically important, cross-institutional challenges and requirements, for which an institutional strategy is needed. The focus of the conference will be on the role of national institutes in terms of infrastructure. The interpretation of this topic will obviously be different for every scientific domain.
In the run-up to the conference, 6 online discussion sessions will be held from 11 to 18 October, split along the various domains. For each of these 6 sessions, 25 people will be invited, with participants from research (young and old), university administration, directors of national institutes, representatives of companies and government, and various other relevant people. The sessions will be open for everyone to follow online. The results of these 6 sessions will be used as input for the strategic conference on 11 November 2021. As a starting point for the discussions, the PCNI has written a preliminary memorandum to clarify the context and aims.
This memorandum, more information and (in October) the link to the discussion sessions can be found on the PCNI-website.
