The appointment committee consisted of members of FOAM (Functional Consultation Health & Safety and Environment, made up of the Health & Safety coordinators from all nine NWO Institutes) and the head of P&O at NWO-I. The NWO Central Works Council has also approved the appointment.
Wouda knows NWO-I, the Institutes Organisation of NOW, very well. Since 1998, he has worked as a senior software engineer at NWO Institute AMOLF. From 2017 to 2019, he piloted NWO-I through the transition period when he was chair of the NWO Central Works Council (COR NWO). Prior to that, he had acquired considerable experience in the (central) co-determination of NWO-I, for example as secretary of the COR. The general profile of Wouda closely matches the job requirements of the Central Health & Safety Coordinator.
The Central Health & Safety Coordinator of NWO-I produces, coordinates and advises about the Health & Safety and environmental year plans, chairs the organisation-wide functional meeting about Health & Safety and the environment, maintains networks, ensures that experts in the area of Health & Safety and the environment and (radiation) safety work together, and advises the NWO-I board about the progress and correct application of the Health & Safety and environmental policy within the organisation. Wouda: ‘With this central role, I can facilitate the collaboration between the institutes and various workgroups in the area of Health & Safety. Together we can continually improve our Health & Safety policy and ensure that everybody can continue to do his or her work safely. After my previous work in the area of co-determination, I am pleased that I can now once again work for the benefit of all NWO-I employees.’
