Peter Spijker appointed head of Strategic Support NWO-I
Dr. ir. Peter Spijker has been appointed as head of Strategic Support at NWO-I on 1 December 2023. He held this role ad interim for the past year.
Peter received his PhD in computational physics in 2009 and conducted research at EPFL (Switzerland) and Aalto (Finland) as a postdoc until 2016. He then joined NWO; in various roles at both the domain organization and NWO-I.
Strategic Policy
As head of his department, Peter leads a team of strategic policy advisors who advise and support the board and institutes on a wide range of topics. These include open science, knowledge security, diversity & inclusion, and recognition & rewards. The team also advises on administrative and political issues, both nationally and internationally, including scientific infrastructure.
"Science itself is always looking for the latest knowledge, but also the way research is done is constantly changing," says Peter. "It is challenging to be able to help steer these developments and to see that our institutes can continue to do top research even in this changing world."
"Peter knows the institutes inside out"
Marcel Levi (president NWO-I Foundation Board) is extremely pleased with the appointment of Peter Spijker. "I think that with Peter's appointment we have filled this important position excellently. Peter knows the institutes through and through from various sides. He is ideally suited to lead the team that will help our institutes position them optimally and support them in various institute-transcending activities. I wish him every success in this new role and look forward to continuing the pleasant cooperation."
