NWO/NWO-I reflects on the International Day of Transgender Visibility
Today, March 31st, is the International Day of Transgender Visibility. On this day, NWO/NWO-I reflects on the existence of transgender persons and the discrimination they face worldwide. Transgender persons are people who experience a difference between their perception or expression of gender and the sex assigned to them at birth.
The number of transgender persons is estimated at 2,2% of the population, or about 176 million people worldwide. Moreover, based on a new survey applied for the first time in 2023, CBS estimates that 1% of the Dutch population is transgender, non-binary or genderqueer.
At NWO/NWO-I, we work to create a Diverse, Inclusive and Equal organisation, where all employees feel at home and valued. One of the successes of this work is the transition leave which was included in the collective agreement last year. This refers to paid leave for transgender people who are in transition, for example for operations and all the appointments that go with it. This entitles colleagues entering a transition process to a set amount of leave with pay, without having to call in sick.
