Register for the network event Women+ 0n 28 November

The ERG Women+ is organising a networking event at Nikhef on 28 November for women and non-binary colleagues from the various NWO institutes and NWO-I office. The programme is now online, consisting of why networking is so important for women in academic settings (Lidwien Poorthuis, director LNVH) and a nice way to get to know each other. NWO/NWO-I celebrates Coming Out Day 2024 (11 October 2024)

Friday 11 October is Coming Out Day, a day to devote attention to the moment that people open up about his/her/their sexual orientation or gender identity: their coming out of the closet, or their coming out. David van Walderveen (Strategic Support team leader at DIFFER) advocates in his column, specially written for Coming Out Day 2024 at NWO/NWO-I, that we should stop this coming out of the closet. Event ‘Embracing Diverse Minds –Neurodiversity and Mental Health’ (24 October 2024)

Mental health is crucial for the well-being of individuals, both in the workplace and in educational settings. Unfortunately, stigma surrounding psychological issues often prevents many people from receiving the help and support they need. During the ‘Embracing Diverse Minds- Neurodiversity and Mental Health’ event on Thursday 24 October 2024, we aim to break down these barriers and foster an open dialogue about mental health and neurodiversity. We will explore how to create an inclusive environment where people feel safe to share their challenges and seek support. Together, we can work towards a culture where mental health and neurodiversity are taken seriously, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to thrive. See the calendar for more information.

Neurodiversity at work: ten lunchtime takeaways (2024)

On Tuesday, 18 June, from 12:00 to 13:00 hours, the online lunchtime lecture “Neurodiversity at Work” took place for NWO/NWO-I employees. It was organised in the context of Neurodiversity Pride Day on 16 June. This lecture focused on experiences with neurodiversity at work and provided practical tips to make work more neuro-inclusive. Successful LGBTIQA+ event examines role of ERGs for more inclusion at NWO/NWO-I (2024)

On Wednesday, 22 May 2024, the NWO/NWO-I LGBTIQA+ network organised a meeting to examine the objectives and advantages of Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) within NWO. The event was a valuable opportunity to share experiences and best practices regarding ERGs and LGBTIQA+ inclusion. Read more

Purple Friday at NWO-I (2023)

Last year, Purple Friday fell on Friday 8 December 2023. It is a day to express solidarity with the LGBTQIA+ community by wearing purple-coloured clothing.  Several NWO Institutes also celebrated Purple Friday. Read more

Rainbow flags flying at NWO/NWO-I during Coming Out Day (2023)

On wednesday 11 October 2023  NWO/NWO-I celebrated Coming Out Day by flying the rainbow flag at all NWO Institutes and the offices in Utrecht and The Hague. This year, NWO-I colleague David van Walderveen (policy officer DIFFER) wrote a personal column about Coming Out Day.

NWO looks back on successful Pride Event (2023)

On Monday 8 May 2023, a successful Pride event for entire NWO organisation, including the NWO Institutes, was held at SRON in Leiden. The participants were welcomed by SRON's institute's manager Annemieke Beers and CWI's HR manager and organizer Léon Ouwerkerk. Read more

Judith Kreukels is the Diversity & Inclusion project leader (2023)

Judith Kreukels started working as a part-time project leader for Diversity & Inclusion on 1 February 2023. Her appointment was the first step in the D&I Implementation Plan. Inside went to meet Kreukels, who explained why D&I is important to NWO-I. Read more

Roll out Implementation Plan 2022 - 2027 'Inclusive and diverse personnel policy at NWO-I' (2022)

In October 2022, NWO-I set down an Implementation Plan for an inclusive and diverse personnel policy at NWO-I. The plan targets NWO-I in its entirety and will be rolled out within the organisation in the coming years. Read more

Gender Equality Plan NWO-I (2022)

NWO facilitates world-class scientific research. This research has scientific and societal impact. One aspect of this is encouraging an inclusive science culture with an eye to diversity in the broadest sense of the term. In doing so, the Executive Board is following the gender equality objectives of the European Union and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations. Declaration of Amsterdam: towards an inclusive workplace (2021)

On 18 November 2021 NWO signed the Declaration of Amsterdam, committing the organisation to creating a corporate culture that is inclusive and fosters the integration of LGBTI+ employees.  Read the full article
