Development training in Artificial IntelligenceIn May, Olga Minaeva joined NWO-I DCC as a trainer in innovative digital techniques. She will develop and provide training in the use of Artificial Intelligence applications. We have had the first brainstorming meeting in which we selected the first topics for training. It is expected that the first workshops will begin this fall. You can read more about this in the Inside NWO-I newsletter.

Research Software Support onboarding and networking dayTogether with colleagues from LCRDM, the DCC-Implementation Network, DCC-PO and the Netherlands eScience Center, we organised an onboarding and networking day for new professionals supporting research software development. Workshop basic coding skills (Shell, Git and Python)NWO-I DCC is organising a Software Carpentry workshop on 11 and 13 March 2024. This is a two day hands-on workshop teaching foundational coding skills focusing on reproducible and efficient workflows with Shell, Git and Python. The workshop consist of three lessons, but you can also participate in only one or two of the lessons. Participation is free for all NWO-I employees.

Workshop Astronomical Data Science with PythonThe Netherlands eScience Center and the NWO-I Digital Competence Center are organizing an Astronomical Data Science with Python workshop on 29 and 30 March 2023. This workshop will be in person and taking place at ASTRON in Dwingeloo. The workshop is free and open to all researchers in the Netherlands (costs for accommodation are at own expense).

This is a two day hands-on workshop teaching foundational coding skills focusing on reproducible and efficient workflows. The workshop consists of three lessons, but you can also participate in only one or two of the lessons. Participation is free for all NWO-I employees. On 28 November en 13 December 2022 we organise the workshop in Amsterdam and if we have sufficient interest we will also organise (part of) the workshop at other locations.

Thematic DCCs formedThis week the formation of three thematic Digital Competence Centres (TDCCs) has started. For Life Sciences & Health, Natural and Engineering Sciences and Social Sciences and Humanities these TDCCs will tackle domain specific challenges which transcend across the boundaries of individual institutions. As local DCC, NWO-I DCC was involved in the plans leading up to the formation of the TDCCs and continues to be involved.

Research Software Training NL networkAt the Dutch Open Science Festival (September 1) the Research Software Training NL network was launched. NWO-I DCC collaborates within this network with other DCCs and The Netherlands eScience Center to develop our internal offering of digital skills workshops.

NWO-I is member of The CarpentriesNWO-I has become member of The Carpentries, a worldwide community driven initiative to teach foundational coding and data science skills to researchers. The focus lies on open and reproducible science, covering skills such as reproducible coding and data management. Workshops are hands-on with lesson material developed and maintained by members of the scientific community. Are you interested? Check the curriculum here. Shortly we will start advertising the workshops we organise at the NWO institutes on the course page.
