Exemption proliferation-sensitive disciplines

Researchers who work on so-called proliferation-sensitive disciplines must submit a written request for exemption to the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. Without the exemption, NWO-I cannot enter into any employment agreement with those concerned. Guests (visiting scientists) within those disciplines are required to have an exemption too. Various matters are related to the sanctions regulation North Korea 2007. You will find more information about this here. The disciplines considered to be proliferation sensitive in the sanction regulation concern the following main degree subjects and research groups, which are stated per university. The list can be further expanded in the future.

Delft University of Technology

Faculty of Aerospace Engineering:

  • Experimental and theoretical research in hypersonic aerodynamics
  • Re-entry technology
  • Control systems for guidance navigation
  • Launching and payload structures

Faculty of Applied Sciences:

  • Physics of nuclear reactors
  • Specialised knowledge about the design and operation of the reactor hall of the HOR research reactor

Faculty of Mechanical, Maritime and Materials Engineering:

  • Microturbine technology
  • Use of materials at extreme high temperatures

Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science:

  • Radar-based missile guidance
  • Student projects in which rocket technology is studied, including the student project DARE – Stratos

University of Twente

  • Nonlinear material modelling, algorithm development and nonlinear analysis and optimization of structures and processes
  • Predictive analysis of engineered systems described by nonlinear material behaviour
  • Analysis, design and optimization of complex systems and precision mechanisms

University of Groningen

  • Experimental and theoretical research on materials engineering

Eindhoven University of Technology

  • Technical materials research
  • Aluminium structures
  • Student projects in which rocket technology is studied, such as the student project PR3Space.

If you wish to enter into an employment agreement in one of these disciplines or if you wish to invite a guest researcher, then an exemption from the knowledge embargo is required and you are kindly requested to contact the P&O Department of NWO-I beforehand.
