Ukraine Emergency Fund closed
The NWO-I Foundation Board has decided to close the Ukraine Emergency Fund.
The fund has not been exhausted; the remaining funds will go back to NWO-D.
War broke out in Ukraine in February 2022. The NWO Governing Board subsequently decided to establish an emergency fund of € 1 million. The money was intended to enable NWO Institutes to provide financial assistance to their own staff and to provide refugee Ukrainian scientists with a place to work. The fund was hosted by NWO-I.
In the past year and a half of its existence, the fund has been used only a few times. Despite the war raging on, the NWO-I Foundation Board does not expect any new requests for help. Consequently, the board has decided to return the remaining resources (about two-thirds) from the fund to NWO-D.
