Terms of employment

You bring your talent; we offer a stimulating environment, plenty of opportunities for personal development and an attractive package of employment benefits. For example, there is the option to work on a hybrid basis, and if you are employed on a full-time basis, you are entitled to 42 days’ leave per year.

The terms and conditions of employment at NWO-I consist of three elements:

Cao

NWO-I, together with NWO-D and the Royal Library, forms the Employers’ Association for Research Institutions (WVOI). The WVOI has its own collective agreement. The text of the collective agreement and the salary scales can be found on the WVOI website.

Implementing Regulations (UVR)

For matters not covered by the collective agreement, NWO-I and NWO have what are known as implementing regulations (Dutch only). These include allowances for commuting, facilities for working from home and study facilities.

Tailor-made Terms of Employment (AVOM)

Finally, you can tailor a number of your employment conditions yourself under the Tailor-made Terms of Employment (AVOM) scheme. This allows you to ‘trade’ time for money. For example, you can buy or sell extra days of leave, purchase a bicycle, or save up leave to adjust your working hours.

Sustainable employability

NWO-I believes it is important that all staff members are able to enjoy their work throughout their careers and, consequently, at different stages of their lives. We call this as ‘sustainable employability’. A good work-life balance helps you stay healthy and full of energy.

Therefore, NWO-I has generous schemes for leave and flexible working hours, depending on your stage of life or individual circumstances. The collective agreement covers matters such as paid care leave and parental leave, and there is a generational plan for older employees.

Pension

Anyone who has an employment contract with NWO-I is insured with the ABP for old-age pension, survivors’ pension and disability benefits.
