Facilities and Research
The Secure Analytics Lab is a unique research facility that enables NSCR to analyse highly confidential and privacy‑sensitive data. The research process generally aims to separate research data from personally identifiable information as early as possible, but this is not always feasible due to the nature of the data. This could involve CCTV footage from public spaces, body-worn video camera recordings from law enforcement officers, and geotracking data from vehicles or individuals. Without a facility like the SAL, researchers would not be able to analyse such data properly, as these datasets can only be provided to NSCR under strict safeguards.
ISO 27001 certified
The SAL holds an ISO 27001 certification, a globally recognised standard for information security. This certification underscores NSCR’s commitment to rigorous information‑security practices. It ensures that data handled within SAL remains confidential, intact, and available.
Confidential, because the datasets contain private information only accessible to authorised individuals; intact, because the information is accurate and complete and cannot be altered without authorisation; and available, because authorised users can access the data whenever they need it.
The SAL is currently only available to researchers affiliated with NSCR.
